Ontogenetic Shifts in Adfluvial Coastal Cutthroat Trout

Applied Research Study & Primary Publication

This study was undertaken to better understand growth patterns and habitat use of adfluvial Coastal Cutthroat Trout in a coastal lake system, with a focus on how individuals move between habitats over their lifetime.

Using otolith microchemistry alongside biological measurements, the project reconstructed individual life histories to identify habitat transitions and associated growth responses. Field sampling, laboratory analysis, and statistical modelling were combined to link environmental conditions with observed life-history strategies.

Results provided new insight into habitat use and growth dynamics of adfluvial cutthroat trout, with direct relevance to lake and watershed management, conservation planning, and long-term monitoring in coastal systems.
